Youth Orchestra of Bucks County

“I wanted to take a moment to share with you a great experience our students at the Youth Orchestra of Bucks County (YOBC) had with teaching artists from the Collective Conservatory. We arranged for a 10-week residency as part of our virtual program offerings this fall. Working with the theme of "The New American Orchestra," our students learned about improvisation and composition, heard from a different guest artist each week, and truly collaborated with each other. For many of our classically-trained students, this pushed them out of their comfort zones, but I think it was one of the most relevant and useful ways we could have used our virtual weeks. Their final product - 2 short film scores and overtures, composed by the students and compiled by a producer through the Collective Conservatory - will be shared in January at a virtual launch party event.

I was impressed by how the Collective Conservatory team created a community online, which can be challenging to do. Our students connected well with them and with each other, and you could feel the camaraderie develop through the weeks.”
